New workshop! Sort of. This one is a combination of bundle and rust dyeing, meeting a full 3 hours with take home projects to keep you going.
Bundle dyeing is a great way to sample colors that you collect, forage, or save from the food waste bin. Your collection of dye stuff doesn't have to be grand to sample the different color ways in this fun process. As a beginner, you will be amazed and shocked by some of the colors you can achieve. The more you create, the larger your knowledge of natural dyes becomes.
We start talking about mordants and modifiers and how they relate to this particular dye method. 2 different pots will be prepared so that students can experiment the many ways you can use heat, steam, and minerals to bring different results and change the colors of plants and flowers. As well as learn several techniques on how to use natural forming iron oxide creatively, how to treat your fabrics, and the fun you can have when natural dyes are added.
All materials are provided. Each student will receive a silk bandana and cotton bandana. Students are welcome to bring up to 3 pieces that we will mordant while you dye the provided pieces.
You may also choose to bring a rust project home with you, as you use time to your benefit. So bring an extra piece to dye with a leak proof baggie that will fit that particular piece.
