Join us for a Composition in the Field class that combines expert instruction with exploration of one of the most photogenic locations across our 20+ city network. Each workshop begins with an instructional talk from an experienced photographer, followed by an engaging three-hour walk through the locale where you and fellow students practice shooting strategically and capture interesting photographs. You will gain a foundation for improving your photography skills, whether you're traveling, attending special events, or documenting everyday moments.
This Atlanta-based workshop explores Castleberry Hill, a revitalized historic district on the National Register of Historic Places, known for its use as a filming location for the popular television series "The Walking Dead." The neighborhood has undergone a significant revival, transforming turn-of-the-century buildings into luxury condos, adorned with colorful front doors, vibrant wall murals, outdoor sculptures, art galleries, and boutique restaurants. The streets and alleyways provide excellent backdrops for compelling environmental portraits, allowing you to capture great shots of yourself and fellow workshop participants in authentic settings.
Within a five-minute walk, you will discover additional architectural gems, including the Mercedes-Benz Stadium and unique views of the downtown Atlanta skyline. Our workshop concludes at the Smoke Ring, a well-known BBQ restaurant where you can relax and reflect on the day's photography with fellow photo enthusiasts.
