Mixed Media Masterpieces

Forget what you think art has to look like! This camp pushes students to explore the widest possible range of creative approaches, combining painting, collage, printmaking, and more while drawing inspiration from artists who challenged conventions and redefined what materials and tools can do. Students will experiment with unconventional mark-making instruments, found objects, and unexpected textures to create work that is genuinely surprising and personal.

Inspiration comes from artists including Kimmy Cantrell, Mark Bradford, and Lois Ehlert, each of whom built a distinctive visual language by thinking outside the conventional toolbox. Students will engage with their ideas and use them as a springboard for original creative work.

What to Bring:

• Apply sunscreen before drop-off. Sessions are held primarily under tents, but campers may have brief periods of sun exposure during breaks. A wide-brimmed hat is helpful on bright days.
• Bring a nut-free snack and a labeled beverage each day.
• If your child forgets their snack or drink, we provide Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers and bottled water.
• If your child is staying through the midday break between sessions, pack a nut-free lunch and an additional beverage.
• Dress campers in clothes that can get messy. We have smocks available, but paint has a way of finding its way around them.
