Basic ESL

We want students and clients to develop English language skills that will improve communication and confidence in the business world. We highly focus on improving English proficiency in areas such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking as you learn how to effectively communicate in meetings, presentations, and expressing yourself to acquaintances, employees, and employers.

What you will learn:

Reading

• Read and understand simple texts in English and use text models for writing
• Answer simple comprehension and short answer questions
• Complete multiple choice questions and match sentences about texts
• Reconstruct texts by reordering sentences
• Understand the main idea of a text and familiar topics
• Identify specific information in a text

Writing

• Complete forms
• Write well-structured simple sentences and simple texts about familiar topics
• Use simple conjunctions
• Use punctuation and capitalization correctly in simple sentences
• Create and revise questions to form a survey and attempt to respond to them

Listening

• Listen for specific information e.g. personal information and names
• Answer questions on informational texts
• Match information with speakers and pictures
• Listen for pronunciation and intonation
• Identify numbers (e.g. years and dates) from listening texts
• Listen to complete sentences and respond to questions regarding the context
• Understand simple telephone conversations

Speaking

• Greetings and introductions
• Make conversations in familiar situations (e.g. café, chatting about family, weekend)
• Ask and respond to simple and straightforward questions with modelling
• Describe pictures and compare them
• Talk about past and future events, along with familiar topics and routines
• Practice making arrangements and planning
