FileMaker Pro Beginning: Getting Started as a Developer
This 2-day class, taught by FileMaker Certified Developer Tim Jones, will give you a solid foundation of knowledge to use in developing FileMaker database solutions. Learn how to plan database structures, create E-R diagrams, define tables, fields and relationships, import data, create basic layouts, find and sort records, and write simple calculations.
Prerequisites
This class requires only basic computing skills, such as using a mouse and opening and closing windows. No prior FileMaker Pro or database experience is required.
Outline
Plan a Database Solution
- overview of the FileMaker platform
- plan database solutions and create E-R Diagramcreate new empty database file
- define tables and fields
- set auto-enter options and validation rules
- create simple calculation fields
Understand Relationships- understand and diagnose relationship types
- resolve many-to-many relationships
- define relationships between tables
Work with Data- create, edit and delete records
- import data from Excel and other sources
- import a batch of images
- convert Excel sheet into a new database
- place portals and related fields on layouts
Design Layouts- create layouts optimized for Desktop and mobile
- use themes and styles to update formatting on all layouts
- display related data
- define data-driven value lists and drop-down menus
Find and Sort- find records using multiple criteria and requests
- constrain and extend the found set
- sort records by multiple fields
- printing records
This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.
