Class Description

Description

Learn to capture compelling nighttime photographs of Washington D.C.'s iconic monuments. Professional architectural photographer E. David Luria will guide you through advanced techniques for photographing the Nation's Capital during twilight and moonlight hours, helping you create images that rival the best postcard views of the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and Capitol building.

This photography safari takes place at Netherlands Carillon in Arlington, Virginia, positioned next to the Iwo Jima Memorial, with exceptional vantage points for photographing the three monuments perfectly aligned through your viewfinder. The session is timed to coincide with sunset and full moon rise, providing ideal natural lighting conditions. You'll learn both single-exposure and double-exposure techniques tailored to twilight and moonlight photography. The workshop continues into the evening with nighttime shooting of the recently restored Marine Corps Memorial soldiers silhouetted against the rising moon. If your camera supports double-exposures, you'll discover how to position the moon precisely over the Washington Monument for stunning compositional impact.

One participant shared: “It was a great evening and I enjoyed it a lot! Thanks for all your helpful tips especially the fun with multiple exposures!” Michele M.

Meeting Location: Stone Plaza in front of Netherlands Carillon in Arlington, Virginia, adjacent to the Iwo Jima Memorial.

In case of rain, the workshop will be rescheduled for the following evening.
