Class Description

Description

The Library of Congress Main Reading Room showcases exceptionally ornate interiors featuring impressive grand staircases, beautifully gilded ceilings, sophisticated architectural arches, and impressive collections of fine statuary and historic paintings. These magnificent architectural and artistic elements rival any comparable structure found throughout Europe.

Join us for a special Thursday evening photographic experience when the Library of Congress opens its impressive Main Reading Room to the public for this exclusive program. Learn how you can access the Library's vast resources throughout the year, and take personal photographs inside this spectacular historic venue. Experience the entire space from ground level perspective and explore its remarkable architectural grandeur and artistic beauty in detail.

Prior to entering the Reading Room, Washington Photo Safari founder E. David Luria will share expert tips and techniques for capturing interior architectural photography. You'll focus initially on the Reading Room, then expand to photograph the Great Hall and views of the Main Reading Room from above. Afterward, you'll photograph the building exterior, including its statuary and fountains. Composition and lighting will receive particular emphasis throughout the session.

Weather and access permitting, you'll also photograph the multi-million-dollar Stradivarius instruments (violin, viola, and cello) on display in the exhibit rooms.
