Quick Small Scale Portrait Sculpture
The Decorus Atelier of Figurative Art See all classes by this school @ 117 57th St, Brooklyn, NY
Students of all levels of experience will create small scale, portrait studies in clay using other students in the room as a model or provided example to copy from as a reference. Along the way students will gain a better appreciation for basic sculpture skills and for the anatomical relationships within the head. Instructor will also provide help and examples or demonstrations as a guidance to the class. Students will be provided with clay to use during the class and with sculpture tools. This class was a wonderful surprise for my mom and I. James and Diane were very kind and gave us individualized attention and feedback. The studio itself provided a great ambiance with background music to keep to focused and relaxed. We really felt immersed in the moment. We learned a lot about the basics of drawing and how to use the different sketching tools. My mom and I were both pretty impressed with our sketches and they would not have come along so nicely without the guidance provided by James. We strongly recommend taking courses at The Decorus Atelier of Figurative Art and hope to come back soon! -

James Barbour offers a rare combination of being a master painter & sculptor together with being an amazing teacher. He is motivated to teach, gives of himself, and enjoys seeing students learn and grow. He is insightful and patient with an incredible understanding of anatomy of the human form. The studio has lots of character and offers a warm environment to work. I learned more than I imagined about drawing sculpting and anatomy. A gem of a find in NYC. Highly recommended. -
