This engaging and accessible course is perfectly suited for beginners and for artists returning to drawing after an extended break from formal art instruction. Through this class, students will learn or refresh their foundational drawing skills using graphite pencil, a versatile and timeless artistic medium. The curriculum focuses on developing essential measuring and drawing abilities while cultivating sensitivity and control in hand movements and technique. Students progress through unique projects designed by Linda that improve hand-to-eye coordination while teaching proper methods for measuring proportions and understanding spatial relationships. The course emphasizes best practices for sketching and shading with graphite pencil, enabling students to produce artwork with convincing dimension, accurate perspective, and realistic texture. Students create both line drawings and tonal studies that they can keep in their personal portfolios or enjoy as finished artworks.
Students will learn how to transform flat, two-dimensional drawings into artwork that appears alive with three-dimensional form and realism. This course is particularly beneficial for those interested in drawing for fine art, cartoons, commercial illustration, book illustration, or storyboard work.

The Wednesday 3:30 PM in-studio class is an after-school program for school-age children.
Prerequisites: There are no prerequisites for this foundational course. This class serves as the essential foundational prerequisite and must be completed before advancing to subsequent levels. Students will develop a collection of completed graphite drawings and will receive a certificate of completion necessary to move forward to advanced courses.
Each course includes an engaging and informative Project Booklet containing the Certificate of Completion required to progress to the next skill level.
