Class Description

Description

Discover the multifaceted nature of Beaujolais wines through the lens of soil composition and vinification methods. This comprehensive course explores how carbonic maceration and traditional fermentation processes shape the flavors in the bottle, and explains how the granitic terroir of Crus Beaujolais creates wines with distinctive character and enhanced aging potential that set them apart from other Beaujolais designations. While Beaujolais Nouveau may seem approachable and lighthearted, the subject matter encompasses considerable depth and nuance.

The class provides thorough coverage of Beaujolais history, geography, climate, and wine styles, establishing this region as an important gateway to southern France. The journey then turns eastward toward Jura and Savoie, regions nestled along the Swiss border south of Lake Geneva. These wines, once rarely seen in export markets, have risen in popularity and prestige, earning devoted followings in contemporary wine bars and high-end restaurants where they continue to gain recognition and appreciation.
