Are you considering a career as a sports photographer? Have you thought about working as a freelance sports photographer for a wire service, or a team or staff photographer? Do you know the difference? How can you make your portfolio stand out? Capturing the action is just part of what goes into being a sports photographer. The business side of sports photography involves several other components that go beyond just shooting the event, including how to market your work, how to obtain media credentials to help build your portfolio, and what factors you need to consider when photographing a live sporting event on a deadline.
USA Today Sports Images photographer, Wendell Cruz, will use the vast insight and experience he’s acquired to discuss the steps needed to break into the sports photography field, as well as to walk you through the additional elements that go into the business side of sports photography.
This workshop will cover topics such as:
- Putting together a portfolio or website geared toward sports photography
- Obtaining field access and media credentials
- Transmitting and captioning photos on a deadline
- Networking strategies and tips
- Working as a freelance or staff/team photographer
- How to invoice and sell your photos
- …and so much more!
You will come away from this workshop with a better understanding of the path needed to develop your body of work for potential clients, as well as experience how to prepare, and what you can expect as a gameday photographer for a live sporting event.
