Class Description

Description

Learn the foundations of patternmaking for fashion design by drafting your own custom sloper!!

This course covers the basic blocks and essential patternmaking techniques used in fashion design. You’ll create a front bodice sloper tailored to your measurements—a foundational tool that can be used to develop endless design variations. Perfect for those with some sewing experience or familiarity with commercial patterns—no prior patternmaking experience needed!

What will the day look like?

one-day intensive workshop will be broken up into two sessions:

  • Morning session: Learn how to take proper body measurements for pattern drafting, and then draft a basic bodice front to your measurements.
  • Afternoon session: Learn the three core pattern manipulation techniques using mini patterns. You’ll explore how to modify darts, style lines, and shapes through slash-and-spread, rotation, and pivot methods to bring your design ideas to life!

We will cover things like:

  • Draping demo to help connect the 2D and the 3D
  • Learn how to take proper measurements for pattern drafting
  • Draft the basic bodice front to your measurements

Prerequisite:

For those with prior sewing experience (so you have a basic understanding of what patterns are) but no need for any patternmaking experience. Probably will be good to have sewn something from a commercial pattern at least once

What is Included:

  • 5.25 Hours of workshop
  • break for lunch
  • Live demo
  • All tools, notions, and instruction for the workshop.
  • FREE! Library of mini pattern references to use for different techniques to apply to full scale patterns!
