Ready to pick up a needle and thread for the first time, or finally use that sewing machine sitting in your closet? Sewing 101 takes you back to the fundamentals, starting from scratch and walking you through every essential step to make learning this rewarding craft a fun and inspiring experience for adults.

What You'll Learn:

  • Essential sewing terminology, equipment identification, and safe machine operation
  • How to read, interpret, and follow commercial sewing patterns
  • Selecting appropriate fabrics for your specific projects, from skirts to drawstring pants
  • Practical techniques, including waistband installation and drawstring bag construction
  • Fabric grain line identification and pattern layout
  • Six different stitch types and seam finishing methods using a sewing machine

Supplies and Materials:

  • A detailed supply list will be provided during your first class session for you to purchase
  • All materials needed for your first day are supplied by the instructor
  • Fabric for your project will be purchased by you according to the pattern requirements

Additional Details:

  • This course welcomes both complete beginners and those seeking a refresher in fundamental skills
  • By course completion, you will confidently use a sewing machine and complete a finished garment, whether a skirt or drawstring pants from a commercial pattern
  • Course Duration: Choose between 2 hours once weekly for 6 weeks or 3 hours once weekly for 4 weeks, totaling 12 hours of instruction
  • Virtual classes total 8 hours with all supplies included; virtual students may choose to provide their own sewing machine or use a loaner
  • For those seeking a more intensive introduction, our Sewing 101 bootcamp option provides the entire curriculum in a single day

Refund Policy

Cancellation / Reschedule / Refund Policy:

  • You must give at least 3 business days notice to cancel or reschedule your enrollment in the Regular Classes
  • 24 hour cancellation policy for Private Classes
  • Once the class has started, we can no longer offer refunds
  • In any event where a customer wants to cancel their enrollment and is eligible for a full refund, a 5% processing fee will be deducted from the refund amount

    I loved the course! I can’t recommend the instructor enough - Jules was not only knowledgeable and patient, but generous and made the learning process enjoyable. Worth it - I recommend for anyone starting out on their sewing journey!

    June is an excellent teacher. Her instructions were always clear and she was very patient when students needed extra help. She motivated us and conducted the class with support when needed.

    This class is very beginner friendly and adjustable to your skill level as you go! Elizabeth was my instructor and she did a great job of demonstrating and then having me repeat what she showed me. The objectives were very clear from the get go and I learned lots how many minute but important details I was skipping when sewing on my own. They provide all the supplies, so I highly recommend it for anyone interested in sewing but not ready to commit to their own sewing machine yet.

    Definitely rewarding and fun for me—I came in with no sewing background. The class structure has realistic goals, our instructor and guest instructor were both so patient, helpful, and kind. I came out with a clearer understanding of constructing from patterns and ended up with pants I actually enjoy wearing! I really recommend this class if you're interested in learning to sew.
