Master the craft of woodworking by building a full-size stool in this hands-on class taught by our experienced staff instructor. Using a comprehensive array of power tools and traditional hand woodworking tools, you'll construct a stool that reflects your personal style and craftsmanship. Throughout the process, you'll practice essential tool techniques while receiving real-time feedback and guidance from an expert woodworker who brings years of experience to their teaching. Additionally, you'll gain valuable knowledge about wood finishing techniques that will help preserve and protect your newly created stool as an heirloom-quality piece of functional furniture.
While this class does not have strict prerequisites, it is specifically designed for students who have completed our Foundations of Woodworking course or who possess equivalent shop experience with fundamental power tools such as the table saw, chop saw, and block planes. During this project, you'll also gain practical experience using specialized tools like the spokeshave, which are less commonly encountered in basic woodworking.
Following completion of this course, we recommend taking our Shaker tape weaving class to finish your stool. This low-cost, half-day course teaches traditional and decorative seating techniques.
Prerequisites: Successful completion of the Foundations of Woodworking course, or equivalent shop experience with basic power tools.
