Class Description

Description

Board the beautiful teak decks of our elegant 1920s-inspired yachts, the Manhattan and Manhattan II, and experience NYC's most impressive architectural landmarks and monuments from a unique waterside perspective.

The narrated tour commentary, delivered by knowledgeable members of the American Institute of Architects' (AIA) NYC chapter, is carefully crafted to be accessible and engaging for first-time visitors while remaining sufficiently detailed and informative for long-time New York residents.

During your time on the yachts, you will enjoy comfortable and distinctive touring through the Hudson, East, and Harlem Rivers from either the climate-controlled and enclosed back-deck observation area, or you can wander to the open outer decks to enjoy fresh air and natural sunlight with your complimentary beverage in hand.

Complete Tour Overview: Two Hours and Forty-Five Minutes of Discovery

On this extended cruise experience, you will completely circumnavigate the island of Manhattan, passing under all eighteen historic bridges, while experiencing iconic monuments, world-class architecture, landscaped parks, and remarkable engineering infrastructure.

Detailed Tour Highlights, Topics, and Featured Themes

  • Exploration of visionary planning concepts for reclaiming post-industrial waterfront areas as the innovative "6th Borough", plus strategies addressing climate change and rising sea levels
  • Comprehensive coverage of Manhattan's famous classic architectural spires, including the legendary Chrysler and Woolworth Buildings, combined with a detailed focus on the new World Trade Center buildings and recent award-winning contemporary structures by renowned architects, including Frank Gehry and other celebrated international and local design firms
  • The expanded waterfront access created by innovative new parks and recreation piers highlights ecologically responsible features designed by internationally recognized landscape architects
  • Historic monuments, including the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the newer Roosevelt Island FDR Four Freedoms Park waterfront memorial
  • NYC's most impressive engineering achievements: the iconic Brooklyn and George Washington Bridges, plus lesser-known but fascinating swing bridges crossing the Harlem River
  • The imaginative transformation of the Highline as an elevated linear park and its substantial impact on the development of West Chelsea and the Hudson Yards district.
