Our one-week Tween Musical Theatre Camp is a comprehensive, performance-focused intensive that gives students ages 10 to 14 a genuine taste of what it means to train and work as a musical theatre performer. The curriculum blends acting technique, vocal development, and rehearsal discipline with the collaborative energy of ensemble work, all leading toward a culminating sharing for family and friends.
Over the course of the week, students work on ensemble building, improvisation games, script analysis, and scene study. They are introduced to The Barrow Group's proven acting tools and work closely with a professional musical director and accompanist. By the end of the camp, each student will have worked in a pair on a musical theatre scene and a song selected by the instructor, as well as developed a solo song of their own choosing.
These camps are designed to reward returning attendees. Each session features new scenes and songs, and introduces additional acting tools, so students who come back multiple times will consistently deepen their skills and encounter fresh material.
In our tween camps, students are also asked to observe their classmates at work and offer structured, objective feedback based on what specifically changed after an instructor adjustment. Developing this observational discipline is essential to understanding and internalizing The Barrow Group approach.
Our teaching philosophy is that to act is to PLAY, and that genuine growth happens in an atmosphere of relaxed positive reinforcement and mutual respect. This camp introduces students to the same methodology our adult professional actors train with.
What sets The Barrow Group School apart from many other NYC studios is the depth of our teacher training program. Every instructor who works with your child has trained for years at The Barrow Group in our specific approach before stepping into the classroom.
