Reviews for Digital Photography Classes in NYC

Digital Photography Classes in NYC are rated 4.7 stars based on 913 verified reviews from actual CourseHorse.com purchasers.

  • Very thorough, felt like I was comfortable with the basics by the end of the class. The teacher is very friendly and knowledgeable.
  • I feel very fortunate to have stumbled onto the Art of Intuitive Photography workshops. On a whim I signed up for the Mastering Manual Mode At Night workshop and—wow—it was a win for me. For two hours Ocie guided my learning with thoughtful insights, suggestions for technical improvement, honest critique, and humor as I learned various techniques and strategies to take advantage of nighttime lighting, shadows, reflections, and so on. The two hours seemed to wiz by in a few minutes in the immersive but safe space Ocie created for my learning experience. I am looking forward to exploring other learning opportunities with Art of Intuitive Photography. Check them out if you’re looking to up your photography game.
  • Mindy was excellent, she explained everything in detail and allowed us to practice our new skill. But communication from Coursehorse about the exact location of the course was very sketchy. I almost was walking away, thinking that 20 Lincoln Center was the address, but the actual class was outdoors, near the fountain in front of Lincoln Center and the folks at the gate, correctly, had to clue about any photography class. Just before walking away, Mindy sent me a text message and that's how I connected to her. There were no explanations about how the class would be organised, what equipment to bring. Very disorganised.
  • Ocie Clelland was perfect for me. Very patient with all my questions and helped me fix my cameras incorrect settings. I would definitely take another class offered for the next level.
  • Now I feel more comfortable with my camera and have a guide for settings! Tell a story a with the photos and present the subject to the viewer by following a few simple rules that's what the composition course gives you!
  • Alina Oswald is an excellent, patient instructor.. The lesson was methodical and well-paced. She provided helpful printed material during the lesson and the next day emailed me extensive follow-up information relevant to the lesson. I recommend her highly!
  • Great teacher! She was very patient and was able to pivot. Loved it.
  • Ocie was fabulous - skilled and clear! It was a pleasure taking this class!
  • I really enjoyed this class! Ocie patiently explained the fundamental concepts of photography, showed me how to use the menus and buttons on my new camera, and offered helpful critiques and exposure tips for the photos I took during the class. After just a few hours, I knew way more than when I started and felt confident to start taking pictures of the world around me.
  • The exposure triangle was explained by Ocie in an easy to understand manner, which enabled me to begin to understand it. It finally clicked because I overthought my approach to photography and needed to recognize that there is no formula to photography; however, capturing a particular moment and adjusting the settings in your camera to match what you see is very useful. Make adjustments to the settings based on your own perception of how bright or dark it appears. The concept was simple, but it changed the way I approached my photography skills significantly.
  • Fun class. The instructor was very helpful and supportive.
  • I had a great time learning how to use the settings on my camera, which had been sitting untouched in my office for 18 months. The class was perfectly tailored to my skill level, and I appreciated the hands-on practice. I learned how to effectively use ISO, aperture, and shutter speed, and took plenty of practice photos along the way. Thank you, Ocie!
  • It was very great and immersive class. I learned so much in such a short time with hand on experience. Ocie is awesome! Highly recommend.
  • I enjoyed the class. There were only three of us which was nice as it was almost like having a private instructor. The instructor was knowledgeable and presented information well. I got what I was hoping for out of the class. Only down side was the class had to be rescheduled several times, I believe because people cancelled.
  • After wasting time watching explanation videos online, I decided it was time to take an in-person photography lesson. Best decision ever to sign up and attend this class. Mindy is the best! Within 3 hours, we’d covered the basics and got to test what we’d learned. For anyone on the fence about whether this class is worth, it most certainly is. Felt so much more confident shooting in manual mode after this lesson. Looking forward to taking more lessons with them.
  • Mindy was a great teacher, very informative and it was great being able to rent a camera so now I know what to buy. The class size was small and intimate, and I am ready to create a booking site LOL
  • I really enjoyed the course with Ocie, he is highly knowledgeable and has a lot of experience in photography. I feel more confident to try clicking pictures anywhere now! Thank you!!
  • Very fun and informative course. Ocie is an amazing instructor.
  • I signed up for this class hoping to gain a better understanding of all of the functions and features on my camera and this class gave me exactly what I was looking for.
  • I had a great experience! Mindy was awesome and very knowledgeable. I learned so much in a short time and felt like I had a brand new camera in my hand with new functions I did not know I had. Highly recommend it!
  • Learned a lot! Mindy is concise and patient.
  • This photographic walk with David Brommer , photographer himself was a highlight for me. At once, I have been feeling at ease with David. He gave me good photographic tips and he was able to advance the situation of a good picture to get. David, also explained me well a small part of the Hasidic Jewish culture a tourist like me wants to know. In my country, I rarely see Hasidic Jews with their traditional clothes …, so I was feeling like in another world. For Italian costumers, David speaks some Italian if you are not too much at ease with the English language. I will be attending another workshop about street photography with David, being such happy with this one. Thanks again to David Brommer from Sylvie
  • Alina was thorough in her preparation and the materials that she provided to teach me how to use my Nikon D3300. She was patient and clear in her explanations, and always encouraging as we experimented with different techniques. And she pointed out composition issues with my photos that I didn't notice, raising my awareness of ways to isolate the subject and take better-looking pictures. I'm a beginner in digital photography, and feel much more comfortable talking about and taking photos after my session with Alina.
  • Had a great lesson with OC. Lots of take-aways!
  • A really relaxed class with like minded people . The photographer was professional and excellent at sharing key technical points. Got lots of tips to photography high buildings such as using glass as an imagary. At the end of the 3 hour class we were all asked to reflect on our learning. I would recommend this class.
  • Mindy was just as awesome as all of the other reviewers stated. I finally learned how to use a camera that I’ve had for six years. I highly recommend this course for anyone looking to get started on their digital photography journey.
  • It was a great experience. I was lucky enough to have a small group showing so we have a lot more individual time to ask questions and play with our cameras. 100% recommend for beginners who are just learning to use a camera.
  • Instructor was great, I walked away feeling like I really knew how to get started with my camera
  • Excellent class with an incredible instructor! My photography skills and knowledge have vastly improved. Thank you Photo Uno, highly recommend!
  • The class was very good. Mindy taught in a very simple way so we could perfectly understand the basics of manual photo shooting. We are now in manhattan practicing and having really great results.
  • I took the beginner class with Mindy, and I cannot recommend it more highly! Mindy was a patient and informative teacher, and helped me understand the basics of what goes into a good photo. Recommend this course to anyone interested in photography who is feeling overwhelmed with their first camera.
  • Alina was great. I really enjoyed the course and can't wait to try some of the things I learned. The school's communication pre and post course were stellar.
  • My husband and I took this class to learn how to use our nice camera before traveling to Japan for our honeymoon. Both of us feel that we cannot recommend this course highly enough! Mindy makes photography seem fun, approachable, and intuitive instead of intimidating and difficult. She broke down the key areas that we needed to understand in order to use our camera in a comprehensive, yet easy to understand, manner. We highly recommend this course for anyone looking to gain familiarity and ease in using their digital cameras!
  • Mr. Sherman was knowledgeable and helpful
  • Teacher really took time explaining camera. Kids actually so excited about learning camera the next day they took out the camera and started taking pictures.
  • Mindy was a fantastic teacher. The class was small, which was a plus for me. She was approachable, knowledgeable, and an experienced photographer in her own right. My friend and I went together. It was a great start for her and a really good refresher course for me. Both of us came from slightly different starting off points, and still found the class to be very helpful.
  • This was a great class. Highly recommend it. Rob is knowledgeable and friendly and happily shares the best spot to be!!! Don’t hesitate take this class
  • Very detailed and better than I ever imagined
  • Richard and Alina were both amazing at getting to know me and understanding my goals. Richard was so great in keeping in contact with me to make sure he understood my passions and ensure I got exactly what I needed out of this class. I learned so much from Alina, she is awesome! She really takes the time to share her knowledgeable and taught me such helpful tips. She really guided me and photography.
  • Great class.
  • Mindy is a great teacher, I feel comfortable shooting on Manual for the first time, after having my SLR for almost 10 years. Great class!
  • Incredible experience, the time FLEW by! Mindy is a really great teacher, knowledgeable, thoughtful, very understanding and she made this so accesible and easy. She gave us assignments to focus on once the class is complete and I feel so inspired and motivated to get out there and be creative!
  • Mindy was awesome!
  • This is an excellent class. Mindy, the teacher, gives you a hands on, easy-to-learn approach to photography, explaining complex concepts in layman's terms with easily digestible examples. As someone who has never picked up a digital camera before, I wasn't sure how I was going to do, but within the three hours of the class she put my fears aside. I feel ready to go out and take some photos with my new camera. I highly recommend this class!
  • Mindy is an incredible teacher who is truly dedicated to her students. She made the information incredibly accessible and her enthusiasm for the subject is infectious. Having had no experience with my camera, I left the class with a basic understanding of manual mode and felt confident with my knowledge. She provides just enough information without making the class feel "too technical". I cannot recommend this class enough.
  • This was was super helpful, and Mindy was great! She's enthusiastic, patient, quite knowledgeable, and so so helpful. I recommend this class without reservation.
  • Zim was an excellent photography guide and mentor. I learned to see the city in a new way. I recommend others to seek out her guidance in this and other tours she offers.
  • The trainer is very knowledgeable and great at explaining concepts. She also simplified the concepts, so that they are easy to understand. Highly recommend this course!
  • This class provided the information in a format that was easy to understand and apply.
  • Mike was great! I love how he provided a recap after each topic to ensure that I understood everything. He also touched on some “real life” information for photographers in addition to the curriculum which I appreciate. I felt comfortable asking whatever questions I had in mind.
