Successful food images challenge us to use light and composition in some unexpected ways. For this class, each student will bring food items or prepared dishes they would like to take pictures of, and everyone will have the opportunity to style and photograph different items and dishes.
In this fun class, we'll discover how a food photographer sets up the scene to make mouth-watering food images. We’ll experiment with different lenses, lighting and props, explore natural and artificial light to enhance the food's appeal, lighting a table, food styling and using light modifiers to achieve different styles, as well as lens and gear selections and tips for smartphone food photography. You will leave this workshop with new insights to making better pictures of food.
Part 1: We'll talk about the basics of food photography and useful gear, then dive into using / recreating natural light to shoot a simple food item. At the end of the session, you'll receive an assignment to complete during the week.
Part 2: We'll start with Q & A, then demonstrate using one light with a modifier overhead and a more complex setup, with different food items. At the end of the session, you'll receive assignments to complete during the week.
Part 3: This session is a review and group discussion of images from your all of your assignments.
