Class Description

Description

Let’s get your soon-to-be faves off the stack in the corner of your closet and onto your body-ody-ody. During this workshop, you’ll build skills, have time to practice, and even work on pieces you bring from home.

We will cover things like:

  • Proper fitting techniques for altering hems
  • Basic hem
  • Blind hem
  • Rolled Hem

Prerequisite: This class requires recent sewing machine experience — this is not a learn-to-sew class. Students who have taken [Sewing 101] or a private lessons with me tend to be the most prepared, as my teaching style builds the strong foundation for all others. That said, if you feel confident, you know yourself best! This note is simply here to make sure you're set up to enjoy every minute — not spend it catching up or unlearning old habits.

What is Included:

  • 3 Hours of Workshop
  • Live demo
  • Use of sewing machines and basic studio tools
  • Practice materials
  • Work time on your actual existing garments
  • Individualized guidance from the instructor

Note: This does not include final garments to alter.

What do you need to bring?

Garments that you want to alter or practice on. It’s a good idea to have something to try on even if doesn’t need a hem just for practicing fitting. Appropriate options for this specific class are woven garments (i.e., pants, dresses, or skirts). You can bring jeans; however, there are special techniques required to maintain the original hem.

What should I NOT bring:

  • Items in need of repair: this is an alterations class not a mending class.
  • Soiled or dirty items: all items must be clean and freshly laundered
  • Knit garments: we will be focusing on woven garments during this basic alterations class.

Note: If the materials brought by the student are not appropriate for the project or they forget them, students can purchase provided materials at the time of class.

Refund Policy

Class fees are non-refundable. If you cancel 14 days before the workshop, you can use the credit towards a future workshop or private lesson with Hillary if booked within 60 days of the original class.
