Iconic wardrobe staple, and the perfect project to take you from a confident beginner to intermediate sewing maven! Polished and classic shirting details.
We will be using the Jenna Button-up Shirt pattern from Closet Core Patterns. Sizes run from XXS–4XL and include 3 style options: full length, cropped, or a dress version. In class we will only be doing this as a top, so you get to choose your length and can save the dress version for home.
We will cover things like:
- Working with a pattern
- Clean Finishing Techniques
- Shirt collar & collar stand
- Folded button placket
- Tower sleeve placket + shirt cuff
- Burrito method for yoke
- Turned and pressed hems
- Topstitching
Prerequisites:
This class requires recent sewing machine experience — this is not a learn-to-sew class. It will also be helpful if you’ve worked with a commercial pattern recently but is not required.
Students who have taken classes & private lessons with me tend to be the most prepared. My teaching style builds the strong foundation for all other classes. That said, if you feel confident, you know yourself best! This note is simply here to make sure you're set up to enjoy every minute — not spend it catching up or unlearning old habits.
What is Included:
- Use of sewing machines, sergers and basic studio tools
- 14-15 hours for guided workshop time.
- Live demo and instructions and demonstrations
Note: This does not include materials or pattern. Materials can be purchased separately or brought from home .
What do you need to bring?
The amount of materials you will need will depend on your size. Find this info on the chart below.
Printed version of the pattern. If you print at home, pieces must be taped together prior to class. Alternatively, you can opt to have the pattern provided by Home Ec, and it will be waiting for you in the studio for class. Simply add on at checkout.
